World Series of Slots April 16-18, 2010
The Second Annual World Series of Slots® tournament, held at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino April 17 and 18, welcomed 400 competitors from around the country battling head-to-head through eight exciting rounds, and awarded approximately $300,000 in prize money.
Houston resident Granison Boone, Jr., 73, walked away as the world champion with the $100,000 grand prize and championship bracelet for his slot victory, followed by Jerry Hooper in second place with $15,000, Gayle Williams in third place winning $10,000 and Nicholas Keyock rounding out the top four with $8,000 in prize money.
The 2010 tournament also welcomed celebrity participants Rupert Boneham of Survivor Pearl Island fame, as well as professional poker players Phil Hellmuth, Karina & Chip Jett, Kristy Gazes, and Suzie Lederer.
Cash prizes were awarded after each round. All participants won at least $200, even if they did not advance to round two. Participants who advanced received additional cash prizes for each round, thereafter. The top four winners received any round-advance winnings plus an additional $8,000 for fourth place, $10,000 for third place, $15,000 for second place and $100,000 for the Grand Prize winner, plus the gold and diamond championship bracelet. In addition to the big-money top prizes, six free slot play drawings totaling $10,000 were drawn, five for $1,000 and one for $5,000.
